Ensure Dimensional Accuracy of Automotive Body-in-White

LENGTH: 1h

Assuring dimensional integrity of new vehicles Bodies-in-White (BiW) during and following launch is a balancing act between dealing with the realities of distributed supply chain and aggressive timelines to achieve a repeatable, robust, and reliable Body-in-White. Body shops receive separate assemblies, sub-assemblies, and individual parts which are expected to come together at the assembly plant body shop within expected design tolerances.

BiW Manufacturing and Assembly Engineers face multiple challenges in recognizing and proving if corrective actions for observed distortions in assemblies are the result of decisions made in the weld fixture design or tooling build, inaccuracies in constituent sheet metal parts and sub-assemblies, unanticipated thermal distortion effects, or any other of a myriad of potential sources.

In this webinar, we will introduce approaches to evaluate the welding and assembly process from application of clamps, welding order, propagation of heat effects in the assembly, and the effects of the incoming parts on the resulting assembly's distortion or lack thereof.
