Electric Vehicles represent new acoustic challenges to automotive designers. The absence of the internal combustion engine with exhaust and air intake systems results in more dominant noise contributions from traditional sources such as tires and aero dynamics. Electric motors and ancillary systems such as Pumps, HVAC, Battery Cooling Systems, Compressors etc along with new noise transmission paths through battery compartments add to these challenges.

Vehicle interiors must be redesigned for improved driver / vehicle interaction and the future provision of infotainment systems resulting in investigations of sound bubbles that improve vehicle occupant comfort and speech clarity. Exterior noise legislation responding to concerns about pedestrian safety becomes a critical issue adding to already established Pass By Noise thresholds
