Effective and efficient virtual engineering based on reliable virtual prototyping solutions for the oil and gas industry

Virtual Performance

Introduction

The present economical climate rewards efficiency and quality in all sectors of industry. To achieve these goals, businesses, including those in oil and gas, rely increasingly on technology for conventional and innovative solutions. Virtual prototyping (VP) is one such technology. Unlike time-consuming and expensive physical prototyping, VP allows concepts and designs to be evaluated against system requirements using numerical simulation before having to risk putting those concepts or designs into practice or production. Its use in evaluating the operational performance of some offshore oil platform scenarios dominated by strong and extreme waves is explored herein and the results are presented.
