Spot Weld Analysis

Although welding has been with us for thousands of years the only welding process up until the 19th century was forge welding, when a blacksmith would heat and hammer metal together to create welded surfaces. Since then, many more welding processes have been developed. These include gas welding, arc welding and resistance welding.

Spot Weld Analysis

Spot welding is a particular form of resistance welding that is often used to join together two overlapping pieces of metal where the sheets are less than 3mm thick. A pair of electrodes is used to clamp the two surfaces together and an electric current is then passed through the electrodes, instantly melting the metals at the electrode points and therefore joining the sheets together.

Performing spot weld analysis

Clearly, it is vital to insure that the weld quality is adequate in order for the joined materials to perform the tasks that they are designed for. Performing spot welds analysis via computer allows the engineer to accomplish this significant task quicker and with a greater degree of accuracy. ESI’s spot weld analysis package further enables clients to minimize their prototyping costs while at the same time reducing the cost of distortion repair work. Clients can more easily develop their weld plan and then optimize this strategy in the shortest possible time. The package allows designers to ensure that weld distortion is always well within the allowed tolerances while guaranteeing the best weld quality and controlling the stresses of the welded designs.

Your expert in spot weld analysis

ESI Group is a renowned expert in the development of spot weld analysis packages. The company was formed to deliver virtual prototyping applications focused around the discipline of materials physics. This background has led the company to develop industry-specific solutions such as the spot welds analysis package, which is part of the broader welding application. The company has had great success in delivering applications that greatly reduce the time and money that companies must invest in this highly specific area.

Choosing a spot weld analysis application provider

ESI Group has its roots in UC Berkeley, where the four founders received their PhD’s. They launched their company in Paris but, by providing innovative solutions, it quickly grew and today employs more than 1,000 experts and operates in more than 40 different countries worldwide. With clients in diverse industries such as shipping, aerospace, defense, civil engineering and power, no other provider can match ESI’s expertise in this arena.
