Durability Simulation

In today’s modern consumer society, we have become accustomed to the concept of disposable goods. However, certain products and components are designed to have a longer life and must perform to their highest capability to the end. With a product that is designed to last decades it is obviously not reasonable to carry out real-time tests, therefore another approach needs to be established.

Durability Simulation

The answer is durability simulation software solutions. They are able to model how components and products will behave over extended periods of time. This approach greatly shortens development time while helping to create more robust and durable products.

The value of durability simulation

For certain buildings and structures, durability is a primary concern. For example, bridges are designed to last for decades, perhaps even centuries; therefore, all components used must be up to par. Similarly, vehicles and aircraft may be used for years without being replaced and so durability is, again, a key issue. Durability also considers how objects will behave in extreme environments. For example, an aircraft wing will be subjected to a variety of stresses, such as temperature, throughout its lifetime. But once again, since it is not possible to replicate all of these stresses in the real world, durability simulation software allows us the opportunity to model these conditions directly on the computer.

An expert in durability simulation

ESI Group has been working in the field of virtual prototyping for more than 40 years. Its particular expertise is in the physics of materials and, as such, is extremely interested in durability simulation. Durability simulations take the study of materials physics into four dimensions by introducing the concept of time. So now, clients can not only model how their products will behave in the present but also how that behavior may change over time. Clearly, this is vital in order to create safe products.

Experience in durability simulation

ESI Group was founded more than 40 years ago by a group of UC Berkeley PhD graduates, who set up shop in Paris, France. The company was focused on developing virtual prototyping applications designed to help clients make better products and bring them to market faster. The company is world renowned for its expertise in materials physics, and its modelling software has helped clients in more than 40 countries slash their development costs and ‘get it right’ the first time when creating new products.
