Skoda Superb frontal impact

PAM-CRASH is a fully integrated and efficient application for crash test
simulation and the design of occupant safety systems. This solution allows consideration of manufacturing effects by chaining the simulation of casting, stamping and composites forming processes to crash simulation.

The automotive industry currently relies on advanced manufacturing processes which range from using new materials like aluminum alloys. All these processes like casting, hydroforming and continuous welding have a direct impact on overall crashworthiness and require that car manufacturers use rupture models to improve the prediction of energy absorption.

 Skoda Superb side impact

PAM-CRASH enables product and/or workflow integration by facilitating collaboration design and skills sharing among suppliers and OEMs for the continuous improvement of virtual prototypes.

Modeling local areas in details requires smaller finite elements and consequently mesh refinement with long calculation time. Instead of imposing the calculation to the whole structure, PAM-CRASH isolates the local areas with refined mesh (with small time step) and make it run simultaneously to the whole structure at the same speed, using subcycling.

Multi-scale modeling helps to simulate material rupture within acceptable calculation time, saves computation time and increases flexibility and performance.
