Foam-X
Foam-X calculates the required AutoSEA2 foam and fiber material properties from standard tests. Foam-X uses an inverse algorithm that works with acoustic data output from ASTM E1050 impedance tube tests to identify porous material properties. It calculates the “geometric parameters” viscous and thermal characteristic length and tortuosity. It can also calculate flow resistivity and porosity.
Features & Benefits
- Interface with AutoSEA2
Foam-X writes out AutoSEA2 Neutral Files for both Fiber and Foam material properties.
-Saves time; avoids transcription errors
- Direct Acoustic Test Method
The Foam-X inverse method – based on direct acoustic test – is more accurate than ultrasonic test methods which load to a 20-35% error.
-Single test with more consistent results
-Geometric parameters with error <10%
- Software Solution
Foam-X software works with all standard ASTM E1050 impedance tube equipment. It replaces the need for multiple other items of test equipment, eg - resistivity meter, pycnometer and tortuosity meter.
-Large cost saving in test equipment
-Faster sample testing
- Range of Material Models
Foam-X can characterize many different types of open-cell
porous materials:
-Foam (metallic, polymeric, chipped foam, etc.)
-Fiber (glass wool, glass fiber, felt, resinated cotton, fabrics, etc.)
Foam-X can also characterize each of the following frame types:
-Rigid frame (reinforced glass fiber, metallic foam, foam board, etc.)
-Limp frame (glass wool, felt, etc.)
-Elastic frame (polymeric foam, some fibers, etc.)
