Flanging with ironing
Ironing is a phenomena occurring in some stamped parts, either because of geometric reasons of the given part geometry, or introduced as a method to control springback. In any reason, when ironing occurs, this needs to be treated carefully, especially in combination with high strength steel.
The normal shell formulation is not sufficient to describe this phenomena, as the stress and strains in the element normal are not described good enough. Therefore, PAM-STAMP 2G features a new element to simulate ironing: Through Thickness Stress element.
This element takes into account thinning, normal stress and 3D plasticity induced by bilateral contacts. It is activated automatically when ironing phenomena appears and is compatible with Yoshida kinematic hardening.
