MVC and PPE “Get it Right” on the First Try with ESI’s Composites Simulation Solution

MVC Soluções em Plásticos (MVC), a Brazilian company specialized in composite materials and processes, needs to produce a onepiece bus body side in lightweight composite material. Not only is this a large component to manufacture, but the part also has to be of the highest quality.
The greatest challenge for MVC, however, is to manufacture this part in a single run to avoid multiplying costly tools, and with an injection time that does not exceed a few minutes to prevent dry spots and maintain an efficient cycle time.
Manufacturing a fairly large composite product which satisfies automotive expectations in terms of appearance and structural robustness is a challenge in itself. Achieving it in a single, short production cycle called for a collaboration of experts. MVC and PPE resorted to simulation and met all specifications on the very first try. PPE is a French technical center specialized in the development of manufacturing processes for composite parts, including Liquid Composites Molding processes. MVC and PPE joined forces to create a Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) process, with the support of ESI’s PAM-RTM, in order to define and optimize an injection strategy for the body side of a bus. By collaborating with Pôle de Plasturgie de l’Est (PPE) and utilizing their expertise in Liquid Composites Molding (LCM) along with their experience with ESI’s PAM-RTM, MVC was able to get the high-quality part they needed on the very first try. Using the right numerical simulation solution and teaming with the right partner helped MVC minimize the risk of production defects or delays. It helped MVC ensure that they would deliver the right quality on time, to the satisfaction of their client. From start to finish, they were able to bring their part to life in as little as five weeks.
